Thousands of fish dead

GARDEAU, Pa --- Thousands of fish and other aquatic organisms no longer live in the treasured waters of the Portage Run Creek in McKean County.

More than 48,000 gallons of sodium hydroxide spilled into the stream when 31 train boxcars and cars derailed near the juncture of McKean, Ca meron and Potter counties on Friday, June 30.

That chemical flowed downstream to Emporium, and by last Saturday morning (July 1) it ended up in Sinnemahoning-- literally suffocating thousands of fish and other amphibians.

However, some of those lucky water animals survived. Some cray fish, whom fed on the fish, and at least one stone fly, spotted near Emporium, stayed alive in the contaminated stream.

Portage Run, a branch of Sinnemahoning Creek, once dubbed as a Class A stream, provided fishers with a pristine spot to catch small mouth bass and trout. The distinguished tourist attraction, that drew people from all over the country to this area, has been put on hold.

The Driftwood Branch of the Sinnemahoning in Cameron County, another popular fishing spot, suffered in the wake of the recent incident.

Cameron County Watershed Specialist Zoschg says that the stream might be recolonized in about five years, but he said for the species to adapt to the enviroment, it'll likely take longer.

Recent studies by the Center for Toxicology and Environmental Health of Little Rock, Ark. revealed the Ph level of around 13 and 14 when the chemical circulated throughout the stream.
"While most of the stream is close to its normal pH levels, there are still spots where small pools of concentrated sodium hydroxide may exist at levels that could cause injury," DEP Emergency Response Manager Dan Holler said.

The state Department of Environment of Protection used benthic macroinvertebrates, insects visible to the naked eye, to test the water quality.

Officials reported five cars contained the chemical, also known as lye, but only three of them leaked. A tanker carried chlorine but wasn't breached.

Bruce Manning, of the McKean County Emergency Management Agency, said the chemical seeped from one tanker, traveled under the railroad tracks, entered a pipe and flowed into Portage Run, a branch of Sinnemahoning Creek.

"It (the affects of he derailment) does have a huge impact on Cameron County and the Emporium Borough because it is in the center where everything is located," Emporium Manager Robert Aversa said.

Scam in Potter County

State Troopers report that 33 year old Vicki Kelly was scammed. She was
contacted by a man claiming to represent First Citizen's Bank in
Philadelphia. He told her she would received a 10 thousand dollar grant if
she verified her bank account information.

The scammer took 399 dollars out of her account.

Police are looking for anyone with information.

Electric Fence Damaged

Crystal Kinchen called police to report damage to her electric fence. 50
feet of fence was down around her horse pasture. No permanent damages were
sustained, and no horses were injured.

State Police are investigating a call received from 59 year old William
Munter.

Munter told police he discovered an empty beer bottle and beer can next to
his mailbox.

understand if someone dumped a whole bag of garbage at your house. But a

Delay For Seneca Taxes

The Seneca's aren't happy about NY's plan to charge taxes on tobacco and
gasoline sold to non-Indians, but they are happy about a delay from the
governor's administration.

NY Governor George Pataki says it's prepared to start charging taxes March
1st, but it wants to wait until the state legislature sorts out its laws on
collection of taxes.

Officials say it will cost the state 1.5 million dollars a day to enforce
the collection if the Senecas show the same unrest they did the last time
the state tried to collect taxes.

Chain Saw Rendezvous

Woman Pleads Guilty To Welfare Fraud

A Niagara Falls NY woman pleaded guilty to welfare fraud charges in McKean
County Court.
Rosella Simmons Medlin admitted to defrauding the welfare system of 32
hundred dollars in food stamps and more than 400 dollars in cash. She
collected the benefits between the year 2000 and 2002 without reporting her
husband's income, or her move to Niagara Falls.
She collected an additional 13 hundred dollars cash and three thousand
dollars in food stamp between March of 2003 and July of 2004 by presenting
forged documents to the Department of Public Assistance. Sentencing is set
for March 16.

Port Resident Dies From Fire: Details Sketchy

Port Allegany Resident James Spiegel died as a result of injuries sustained
in a fire Thursday. Friends of the deceased say that he fell on a kerosene
heater.
His funeral is set for today.
State Police have not yet released any details in the man's death.

Woman Injured in School Bus Crash

A woman was injured in a school bus crash yesterday on East Main Street.
City Police report that Bus number 25, drive by 51 year old Jack Spring
failed to stop and hit a car driven by 55 year old Martha Hurd of Bradford.
Hurd was stopped for children crossing the road.
She sustained moderate injuries in the crash.
Spring will be cited for following too closely.

Pitt-Bradford Student Arrested For Murder Solicitation

A Student at Pitt Bradford was arrested Thursday on a fugitive from Justice
warrant. She's accused of soliciting murder in Chicago Illinois. County
Sheriff Brad Mason brought 24-year-old Raquel Jacques before the McKean
County Judge Thursday. Jacques waived her extradition, so she will be held
in the McKean County Jail until officials come from Chicago to take her into
custody. If Chicago authorities don't show up, she could be let out after 30
days.
Jacques was a nursing major at Pitt Bradford.

HARB Takes Back Ruling

The Bradford Historic Architectural Review Board has reversed its decision
to back the demolition of that house on Chautauqua Place.
HARB Unanimously decided to withdraw their approval for demolition.
Main Street Manager Diane Dewalt says a historic preservationist ruled the
house with it's arch style wood form vernacular was built in 1900, and
should be considered a contributing historical building.
The issue will go before City Council for a final ruling.

Bradford Man Injured

A Bradford man was hurt in a one-vehicle accident at about 9 o'clock
Wednesday night on Minard Run Road.
Bradford Township Police say a pickup truck driven by 29-year-old Jason
Tessena went out of control. After the accident, Tessena was taken to
Bradford Regional Medical Center.
Police say charges are pending.

Rapp Sponsored Vet Legislation

Jamestown Man Gets Jail Time For Drug-Candy Mix-up

A Jamestown man will spend 3 and half years in prison for letting a
4-year-old boy eat a mixture of cocaine and heroin from his pocket on Sept.
18.
Chautauqua County District Attorney David Foley says 25-year-old Raymond
Medina, pleaded guilty in December to criminal possession of a controlled
substance and reckless endangerment.
Medina was walking with his girlfriend's son, when the boy grabbed what he
thought was candy out of Medina's pants pocket and ate it. When the boy lost
consciousness, Medina rushed him back to his home, according to police. The
boy was revived in WCA Hospital's emergency room, then transferred to Women
and Children's Hospital in Buffalo.

Man Charged with Pot Possession

A man was pulled over for a traffic violation in Potter county, and charged
for possession of marijuana.
State Troopers say Steven Daggett of Manheim, PA was pulled over on Route
872 just south of Bark Shanty Road when they determined him to be in
possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Charges will be filed at a later date.

Police say Dan Mock of Galeton has been charged with disorderly conduct,
after his goat traveled on to the property of David Burrous.

SW Smith To Get New Home Soon

Crude oil prices have been falling recently, and at the same time, the

residents are reaping the benefit of a slightly fatter wallet.

in the Math Counts competition. At Gannon University.
Kenneth Arble, Danielle Lewis, Spencer Mallette, and Alex Borland took first

Lawsuits Filed Against Miskiel and BRMC

Lawsuits on both sides have been filed in the case of former Bradford
Regional medical Center Oncologist Edward Miskiel.
According to a report in this morning's Bradford Era, the BRMC suit claims
Miskiel was terminated for surfing porn on hospital computers, intentionally
recording the wrong billing codes, and not filing adequate billing records.
Miskiel filed suit in Berks County Court, claiming BRMC has no legal grounds
for the termination.
Many local residents have signed petitions and pledged their support to
Miskiel.

More Charges Coming For Cramer

Bradford, Now you heard here first that more charges are coming..
The woman was initially accused of stealing 22 thousand dollars from the
Orchard Parks Apartments.

Bradford City Police Officer Steve Caskey says business owner John Kohler
was notified by the bank that Cramer had been cashing a large number of
checks.
Several weeks Later Cramer was charged with stealing an additional 236
thousand dollars by using a rubber signature stamp.
Caskey says the incident is still under investigation, but there will be
more charges filed.
According to documents at District Judge Dominic Cercone's office, Cramer's
listed address is in Florida.
Caskey says as long as she makes all of her Pennsylvania Court appearances,
that shouldn't be a problem.
Cramer posted 10 thousand dollars bail.

Bush's Budget Could Hurt Timber Monies

President George W. Bush's budget plans could threaten the Timber Revenues
that local municipalities depend on.

The Secure Rural School Program would ramp down funding for the next few
years, with the possibility of total elimination by the year 2013.

DA Falls Ill

Convicted killer James McMahon wants a new trial. His hearing came to a
screeching halt Tuesday, as McKean County District Attorney John Pavlock
was rushed to the hospital.

Pavlock approached the bench and asked for a recess in the afternoon
session.

Shortly afterward, an ambulance arrived at the rear of the courthouse,
witnesses report seeing Pavlock loaded into the ambulance.

Upon arriving at the McKean county Prison board meeting Friday, Pavlock was
overheard saying that he had the flu.

It's not clear whether it was the flu, or another health problem that struck
Pavlock.

Two Bradford Police Officers Promoted

Riel did question the current standards and procedures for promotions,

Portville Man Pleads Guilty

A former funeral home director, who admitted to sexually abusing a
13-year-old girl, will be sentenced on May 19.
46-year-old Richard D. Truesdell pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse
and endangering the welfare of a child. A former employee of Guenther

Truesdell is expected to be sentenced to three years' probation and be
required to register as a Level 1 sex offender, according to a plea
agreement.

Jamestown Woman Bites Daughter

27-year-old Laura Butts tells police she was disciplining her daughter for

He was approved during Monday night's school board meeting, and will receive

School superintendent Sandra Romanski says that Johnson will be making less

Sweden Police Restrictions Lifted

After some legal wrangling the Sweden Township Police force was granted
permission to file complaints and applications for search warrants without
going through the District Attorney's Office.

Former District Attorney Jeff Leber had blocked the department from issuing
misdemeanor and felony complaints.

Potter County District Attorney Dawn Fink asked President Judge John Leete
to rescind the order.
She says enough time has passed from the initial complaint of poor judgment
on behalf of one of the officers that the restriction is no longer
appropriate.

Kane Residents Injured in Route 80 Crash

A crash on Route 80 left two Kane residents injured. State Police out of
Mercer report that a van driven by Wade Pennington of Kane and tractor
trailer driven by Keith Lane of Cochrantown collided because of snowy road
conditions.

Pennington and his passenger, Rose Pennington were both injured and were
taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. They were listed in
serious and critical conditions Sunday Night.

Another passenger in the van, Brandon Reese, of Arkansas was taken to a
hospital in Youngstown Ohio, he's in critical condition as well.

Hebron Fire

A Potter County home was damaged by fire this weekend.

Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department Chief Glenn Dunn says the West Hebron
Rod residence caught fire Sunday morning.

No injuries were reported.
It appears an overheated lamp caused the fire at the home of Delores Wilson.

55 fire fighters fought the blaze.

Shinglehouse and Roulette Fire Departments assisted at the scene.

Crosby Cow and Coyote Hunt

The Crosby Cow and Coyote Hunt rounded up this weekend. Suzie Chesebro and
Pat Freer were named as Queen and King of the event.

Tradition has it that the event began as Crosby residents searched for a
real missing cow years ago. The event has evolved into a tongue in cheek

Over the years, more than 50 thousand dollars has been raised to benefit
Shriner's Hospital, Camp JJ, The American Cancer Society, and local sports
teams, among other charities.

Bradford Gas Prices Still Low

Gasoline Prices are still down low today in Bradford. The prices dropped
down after the Chestnut Street Unimart lowered their prices for their Grant
Reopening Celebration Friday.

The other gas stations in town followed suit, and gas is averaging about
2.19 a gallon.

One employee at a local gas station this morning refused comment. He says he
could be fired for even talking about gas prices.

Skier Has Bradford Ties

One winter Olympian has local ties. Skier Erik Schlopy's father is a 1960
Bradford High Graduate.

Kent Schlopy taught Spanish and coached track and football in Bradford.

Schlopy says his son has been skiing since he was two years old.

219 Hit and Run

A Route 219 incident took clipped the mirror on a Bradford man's Truck.

State Police in Ridgway say Alvin Hance Jr. of Bradford was driving on
Route 219 Near Johnsonburg, when an unknown Tractor Trailer struck his side

Lewis Run Water Issues Continue

The Lewis Run Borough may be required to hook up to the Bradford City Water
Authority after a meeting with Department of Environmental Protection
officials.

Potter County Set To Fix Dam

U.S. Rep. John E. Peterson (PA-05) announced this afternoon that Potter
County officials will soon be receiving $560,000 in federal funding to help
rebuild the North Fork Cowanesque River Dam in Harrison Township. The grant,
to be disbursed by the U.S. Department of Agricultures National Resource
Conservation Service, will be used by Potter County commissioners to
rehabilitate the aging floodwater retarding structure so that the dam can
once again meet design, safety, and performance standards issued by the
state.

This important federal grant will go a long way in ensuring that vital
improvements to the North Fork Dam can be made as quickly and efficiently as
possible, said Peterson. A project like this is hard to undertake without
a significant infusion of money from both the state and federal levels of
government. Im pleased that we were able to do our part in Washington so
that this important work can get started.

The project seeks to make several important improvements to the North Fork
Dam that, when complete, will potentially extend its useful service life by
another 100 years. Those changes included raising the structure an
additional 8.2 feet, stabilizing the auxiliary spillway, repairing the
principal spillway and its outlet, and modifying the dams existing
embankment drain.

Weve been working on this project for awhile, and with the help of these
federal funds, well now be able to move forward with plans to correct and
widen the dams spillway, and to raise its top level, said Potter County
Commissioner John Torok. Were grateful to Congressman Peterson, as well as
Sens. Specter and Santorum, for supporting this important program offered by
the USDA.

The Army Corps of Engineers originally constructed the dam in 1960 as a
medium hazard structure for the purpose of reducing flood damages to
downstream roads, bridges, and agricultural lands. The dam was designed to
be serviceable for 50 years. But the Pennsylvania Department of
Environmental Protection classified the North Fork Dam as a high hazard in
2002, citing problems that would put an estimated 44 houses and 132 people
at risk should the dam breach unexpectedly. At that point, Commissioner
Torok started the process of applying for grant state and federal grant
money to help do the work necessary to bring the dam into compliance with
current safety standards.

In terms of financing the dams rehabilitation, the federal governments
share of $560,000 represents 65 percent of the total project cost, estimated
now at nearly $1.13 million. The rest of the money will come from state
accounts, such as the Growing Greener II program, as well as local resources
gathered by the Potter County commissioners.

Child Seat Checkpoint

Bradford Man Charged with Sex Crimes

A Bradford man has been charged with several sex charges and was released on
bail. Jason Meyers of Bradford was remanded before Judge Dominic Cercone
for the sex charges after an alleged incident involving a female juvenile
below the age of 13. Bail was set at ten thousand dollars and a preliminary
hearing is set for February 8.

State Police are releasing a report of a hit and run DUI crash this weekend.
A vehicle driven by Travis McKeirnan was traveling on Railroad Street in the
Austin Borough when he left the roadway striking a utility pole.
McKeirnan's two passengers, Crystal Smith of Roulette and Teresa Siebert of
Austin, were transported to the Charles Cole Memorial Hospital for treatment
of minor injuries. McKeirnan was determined to be under the influence of
alcohol. None of the occupants were wearing their seatbelts.

Coudersport Man Charged

A Coudersport man is facing several charges including Driving under the
Influence after a traffic stop yesterday. Drew Watson was traveling east on
Chestnut Street in Coudersport when troopers observed him commit several
traffic violations and was stopped according to the police report. After a
Blood Alcohol test Watson was charged with the Traffic Violations and a
charge of DUI.

Champlin Hill Crash

State Police report a crash on Champlin Hill Road in Eldred.

Lisa Swartwood of Kane reportedly lost control at about 2AM Saturday
morning. She then went off the east berm and struck the guard rails, going
through the year of 55 year old Kathy Silvis., causing ruts.
Police allege the Swartwood left the scene without notifying the property
owner. Charges are pending.

Hit and Run

State Police report a crash in Keating Township, 2 miles West of Smethport
on Route 59.

Officers say 19-year-old Dustin Jacoby was traveling in a Plymouth Neon when
he swerved to miss a dear, then ran into a ditch, and struck a guardrail.

Jacoby had a 15-year-old female passenger in the car at the time of the
accident.

Officer say the pair left the scene on foot, and were later located at the
apartment above the ESCAPE bar.

Police say Jacoby was DUI.

An 18-year-old Female from Belmont New York has been arrested for Driving
under the influence in Genesee Township yesterday. According to the Police
report released by the State Police in Coudersport, Jamie Buzzard was
determined to be intoxicated and after receiving a Blood Alcohol test at the
Charles Cole Memorial Hospital is being held on several traffic charges.
Among the charges are DUI, consumption, and the purchase of alcohol.

State Makes Effort to Curb Sportsmen's Creep

learn about hunting with their families.
The "Families Afeild" bill will hopefully help resolve issues with declining

Brick Thrown Through Glass

Someone damaged property at the Nu Gas property in Lewis Run sometime
between 4:30 Thursday afternoon and 8:30 Friday morning.

Jerry Carver of Salamanca tells police someone threw a brick through the
window of the office trailer. The brick hit a fire extinguisher and caused
it to spray the contents inside the office.

Damage is estimated at 700 dollars.

55 year old Louis Roach was convicted for the 1991 murder of a Bradford

A Coudersport man was sent to jail on theft charges.
Brian Honey was sent to jail on 50 thousand dollars bail for allegedly
stealing more than 100 thousand dollars in items from Mountain Ridge Sports.
Honey is also accused of forging a 3 thousand dollar check off Mountain
Ridge Sports Owner Scott Bruzzi's account.
Honey was convicted in 1999 for the theft and sale of a firearm. That
firearms was the one used to kille Kane Borough Police officer Steve Jerman.

Kane Man Pleads Guilty

A Kane man who broken into two Dawson Street homes and took more than 5
thousand dollars worth of items pleaded guilty today in McKean County Court.
20-year-old Travis Whipple was also found with more than 6 grams of

Potter County Crash

Two vehicles collided Wednesday afternoon on Route 49 about a quarter of a
mile west of Ulysses.

State police say a pickup truck driven by 33-year-old Robert Dorosiak of
North Tonawanda, New York, was attempting to make a U-turn when an SUV
driven by 38-year-old Kevin Miller of Coudersport tried to pass it.

No one was injured, but the pickup had to be towed from the scene.

Police say he will be cited for trying to make the U-turn.

Elk County Girl Killed

A 12-year-old girl is dead after a crash in Toby Road in Fox Township Sunday
afternoon.

State Police say a 17 year old female was driving a 95 Dodge Caravan along
Route 219 in Elk County when she lost control on the snowy roads, and rolled
the van.

The 12-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were ejected from the vehicle.
The boy was seriously injured, and is at UPMC in Pittsburgh. The girl was
pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither of them was wearing seatbelts.

The 17-year-old driver, and her 19-year-old passenger were not injured.
Police say the two uninjured were wearing seat belts.

No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.

Lewis Run Stabbing

A Bradford woman was arrested for Aggravated Assault after allegedly
attacking a Bradford man at a bar in Lewis Run Saturday.

State police say Jennifer Hensley and Daniel Benner were arguing outside
Jose's Bar when it became physical.

Hensley allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed Benner in the armpit. She was
placed in the McKean County Jail in lieu of five thousand dollar bail.

Escapee Pleads Guilty

vehicle accident reportedly left Timothy with head and neck trauma causing a
continuing psychiatric condition. Mr. Tankersley's attorney feels that his
client is unable to understand and comprehend the significance of sentencing
and has asked for the continuance until Mr. Tankersley is deemed able to
understand the proceedings.

Eldred Man Denied Appeal

The Eldred man charged with several sex offenses after an alleged rape has
been denied an appeal by the State Supreme court. James Schneider was
attempting to have a new trial started after what he believes was
prosecutorial misconduct at the original 1996 trial that sent him to prison
for 30 years. Schneider was sentenced in April of 96 for the rape and other
sex charges of a then seven-year-old girl.

Quinn Pleads Guilty

21 year old Eric Quinn was arrested in December for walking home drunk, and

attitudes toward certain police officers.

Johnsonburg Bypass Project Started

The Johnsonburg Bypass is officially underway.
Continental Construction has begun the first phase of the Route 219 project,
as it has digging has commenced to relocate sewer lines.

The line relocation should be done by the end of February.

The 35 Million dollar project will be done in two phases. Eventually Route
219 will run on the Western side of the Clarion River, instead of directly
through town.

Roulette Barn Broken Into

A Roulette barn was burglarized, according to State Troopers.

Officers say someone broke into the barn sometime between New Years Day and

Rabies in McKean County

Reports of a rabid raccoon in McKean County have been released. Veterinarian
for the Department of Agriculture Karen Martin says that a dog and a raccoon
were fighting along Newell Creek Road in Ceres Township when the owner tried
to intervene.
The vaccinated dog was badly bitten on the face and required surgery.
The owner was bitten on the hand by the wild animal. He's going through a
series of rabies shots.

Martin recommends vaccinations for pets to prevent rabies.

The dog involved in this case has been quarantined.

Dana and Rex Attend State of the Union Address

First Lady Laura Bush's guests during the president's State of the Union
address.
Dana and Rex, who had a seat on the aisle, were shown on television during
the speech.

Capitol Hill, meeting with lawmakers and the media.
She met with Congressman John Peterson for about 30 minutes. Peterson pushed

Chief Warrant Officer Mark Vecellio is a special agent in the US Army

McMahon To Head Up McKean County Economic Development

head ray McMahon will start working for the county on Friday.

pulling in a 47 thousand dollar pension from the City of Bradford.

PA Man Gets Wallet Back

A Pennsylvania man who lost his wallet in 1967, is getting it back, with
five dollars and a traffic ticket still in it.
57-year-old Doug Schmitt lost the wallet when he stopped at a Utah gas
station in 1967. The owner stashed it in a drawer, presumably thinking the
owner would come back to get it.
After the gas station owner died, his son-in-law found the wallet, tracked
Schmitt down and sent him the wallet.
The wallet also contained a dry cleaning receipt and pictures of Schmitt's
girlfriends from a suburban Philadelphia high school.

Winter A No-Show at Winterfest

Old Man Winter was a no-show at the West End Trailblazers Winterfest in Roulette on Saturday. Sunny skies and temps in the mid-40's won out over the cold and snow. Attendance at the event was expectedly low, but fun was still to be had in things like the sawdust pile, dart throw, four-wheeler rides, and the always popular horse-drawn wagon. Kraut dogs, soup, and sloppy joes were also available. The snowmobilers will have to hope for better (or worse?) weather next year.

Kane Borough Police were involved in a high speed Chase early Sunday
morning.

Officers report 22-year-old Todd Warham was driving a motorcycle in town
without his headlights, when he ran a stop sign.

Officers pursued Warham through several streets until the motorcycle
crashed. Warham then fled on foot.
He was apprehended, and set to McKean County Jail. Poice say alcohol was
involved.

ARG Clean up

ARG is still working on cleanup of contaminated soil and groundwater at its
Bradford refinery.

The 131 acres split between the City and Bradford and Foster Townships is
the site of a cleanup, spearheaded by Chemtura Corporation of Middlebury

Department of Environmental Protection officials say the contamination does
not affect human health. According to officials at Chemtura, the company has
spent more than 10 million dollars over the last few years on the project.

Potter County Break In

Coudersport state police say the break-in happened sometime between January

Road Rage Incident

An incident of Road rage is under investigation in Harrison Township.

Police report 27 year old Jason Howell was driving his Jeep Wrangler along
North Branch Road when another car cut him off.

The driver of the other vehicle go out of the car, yelled at and threatened

Police say the actor was six feet tall, and drove a dark blue or black Dodge
Pickup truck.

Hamlin TWP Incident

Shinglehouse Hit and Run

According to a released police report a hit and run incident is under
investigation at the Uni-mart Parking lot on State Route 44 in Shinglehouse

left rear bumper slash fender. Garrey then reportedly fled the scene. The
investigation is still ongoing.

Comilla Home Burned

The State Police Fire Marshall is investigating a fire at the Comilla home
on Brown Avenue.

Officers say the Bradford Township blaze caused 200 thousand dollars in

Smethport Grafitti Artists Nabbed

Bradford Historic District Comes Up Again

Talk about the Historic District surfaced again at last night's city council
meeting.
Brian McNamara is one of the newer HARB members. HE asked council, last
night about clarification on the city's historic window laws, which calls
for the retention and rehabilitation of the original windows.
Councilmembers Tom Riel and Tom Shay challenged the ordinance, saying that
older windows often dont work, and newer windows are often more efficient.
Main Street Manager Dianne Dewalt encouraged council to use caution whenever
changing ordinances in the historic district.
